Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA)
Most would agree, that we can't reliably measure the difference between an item 0.5mm long and 0.45mm long using a yardstick or tape measure. Why? We generally make measurements in order to gather data to help us make decisions. To make good decisions, we must be able to rely on the data we receive from our measurements. Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA) is a statistical methodology for determining the quality of the measuring system and the degree of uncertainty in the data we receive from it. It is essential that we evaluate our measuring systems for customer critical characteristics to ensure that the measurements we take are accurate, repeatable, and reproducible. Planning and performing MSA on customer critical characteristics should be part of a well implemented APQP process. Process Champions will provide training and help show you how to integrate MSA into your APQP process through our standard classes or customized training and consulting.
